The intent of our site is, simply, to provide premium content related to the NFL Draft. The site will be continuously updated with revamped player grades, rankings, feature articles, and other insights in order to prominently display and share our analysis. We’ve devised a grading scale which we believe sets us apart from all other sites, and provides the reader with something completely unique to our site.
We intend for Draft Mecca to foster interaction and improvement amongst the draft community. Our forums serve as the community, which give you the ability to improve your own draft stock. You’ll see that we have our forums grouped into the same positional categories that we use, and each player will have their own thread. These threads will be used to share game film, opinions, thoughts, and the like. Each player profile page will include a link back to their thread so that not only our opinions will be on display, but the opinion of the entire community will be as well. In addition, there will also be sections for Big Boards, Mock Drafts, and Player Features. The purpose for a community structured in this manner is for you to not only share, receive feedback, and interact with others, but to serve as a database in which you will be able to see how your evaluation or opinion has stood against the test of time.
Grading Scale/Formulas
As previously alluded to, the grading scale, and formulas that result from it, serve as the lifeblood of our site. We believe that this system not only provides more clarity in regards to player scouting, but solves the issue of positional value. Each player will be labeled with a grade which is the output of the prospect’s positional formula. The grade ranges are as follows:
Transcendent: 93-100
A prospect is not only nearly a guaranteed success (barring freak occurrence), but will serve as a game-changing piece that can not only be built around; but is capable of carrying an elite offense or defense across various schemes.
Elite: 90-92.99
A prospect that is a nearly guaranteed success (barring freak occurance), who is capable of being a consistent Pro Bowl/All Pro player.
- 1st Round Caliber: 84-89.99
- 2nd Round Caliber: 80-83.99
- 3rd Round Caliber: 77.5-79.99
- 4th Round Caliber: 75.5-77.49
- 5th Round Caliber: 74-75.49
- 6th Round Caliber: 72-73.99
- 7th Round/Priority UDFA Caliber: 70-71.99
- Non-prospect: <70
The formulas were built through analytical research, as well as a collaboration of our opinions on the broad skill-sets that determine success, and their value relative to each individual positional grouping. This system is what allows us to grade a prospect’s caliber and build our draft Big Board similar to how a NFL team would.
Our solution to positional value when creating our Big Board is that each prospect’s skillset is projected to the next level in relation to the players at his position. Every skill that we have compiled is graded and ranked within these groupings:
- Foundational
- Pro Bowl Caliber
- High End Starter
- Functional Starter/High End Rotational Player
- Project/Depth
- Camp/Fringe Roster
It’s important to remember that we do not have a team with needs, or a scheme to adhere to, but these groupings allow us to account for the league’s strength at a position. (Ex: Considering the immense amount of talent in the NFL at the RB position, and the relative lack of talent at the QB position, it will be easier for a QB to earn a “Pro Bowl Caliber” score than it will be for the RB.) This system allows us to not artificially inflate a prospect’s stock purely based on position (all potential starting quarterbacks won’t be a top the Big Board solely for the reason of QB being the most important position), but still accurately account for positional value.
